Create a Kit

Want to create a basic Zometool kit? We've got you covered!

GreyZome sells parts only a-la-carte. To build a standard kit on your own, you can put together your own kit.

A typical kit comes with a few each of: Zome Balls, "Blue" struts, "Yellow" struts, and "Red" struts.

There are also "Green" struts to fit across the diagonal of a square, they are a bit more challenging to use. They allow other advanced geometry to be explored.

Below, there is more detail on each type of product, as well as a selection of color-matching products to help create the perfect starter kit. If you are still lost, you are encouraged to check out zometool.com for premium Zometool kits!

Zome Balls:

Zome balls are the nodes that connect to each of the different types of struts. They are the starting point for all Zometool models. Each kit comes with about twice as many Zome balls as Blue Struts.

There are 30 rectangular holes, 20 triangular holes, and 12 pentagonal holes in a Zome ball, each corresponding to a different shape of strut. Also, the number of holes correspond to the relative amounts of struts in a kit.

Rectangular, B, or "Blue" Struts:
These struts fit into the rectangular holes of a Zome ball.

They are colored blue in the traditional Zome system. Here on GreyZome, you might find unique and different colors.  They typically outnumber the other struts in a kit, so get more!

To make a kit that's easy for kids to understand, select at least two lengths of B0, B1, or B2, or all three.

Triangular, Y, or "Yellow" Struts:
These struts fit into the triangular holes of a Zome ball.

They are colored yellow in the traditional Zome system. Here on GreyZome, you might find unique and different colors.  There are more Y struts than R struts in a typical kit.

Pentagonal, R, or "Red" Struts:
These struts fit into the pentagonal holes of a Zome ball.

They are colored red in the traditional Zome system. Here on GreyZome, you might find unique and different colors.  These are the least common in a typical kit, but they are very versatile and can make a wide variety of models.

Diagonal, G, or "Green" Struts:

These struts ALSO fit into the pentagonal holes of a Zome ball, but are bent. Each G strut can go into a hole five different ways, adding 30 new directions.

They are colored green in the traditional Zome system. Here on GreyZome, you might find unique and different colors.  These are included in ADVANCED kits on Zometool, such as the GreenLines kit and the STEAM kit.
